Unique post-rock trio The Slaps have revealed plans for an ambient follow-up to their acclaimed 2024 album, Mudglimmer. The band have enlisted the talents of Sam Prekop to rework ‘Bunny’, one of the album’s highlights. He says: “The piece felt like it was all there, but the openness and minimalism seemed the perfect invitation. I tried adding new elements to what was happening, but felt they were always mere distractions — what to do? While trying to figure out what the tempo was, I sampled the whole band and that was my first cue as to how to get into it. I made a simple chord progression out of it all, but the quality that really stood out were the creaks and cracks so magnified by slowing it all down, the gentle strumming started to take on some unexpected free improvisation tones and so that became the canvas. After working on it for a bit I started to miss what was taken away, so the coda, I think fittingly reforms the group and my last idea was to play a simple but hopefully the right synth line, as if I were there.” The end result is a slowly unraveling, improv-tinged soundscape that allows new sonic experiences to be unlocked with each re-listen.
